One of the reasons I don’t mind being forced into going mountain biking in Rotorua is the Forest. I love the red woods. There is one part on the Dipper track where you ride out of the pine forest into the redwood forest and the change in colour is stunning. If there is a little bit of sun, the red is really intense. Unfortunately on Saturday, when we got to that part of the ride, we were caught in a rather heavy rain shower and I couldn’t get my camera out, however I took a few photos of the trees and the colours by the car park, and some other photos just in the forest.

We Christened “The” Trailer
Posted in Biking, Cam, Family, Kids, fun on October 27, 2008 by mrscownzWell “The” trailer has been finished for a while, and we actually used it for the first time a few weekends ago.
Rob and I took Miss D and Cam to Rotorua one weekend in the school hols when Albie was living it up at Nana’s. We had a good time, but Miss D wasn’t too keen on doing much more than:
And instead spent her time playing with Mum’s camera….
And then Mum & Cam went for a ride on their own and got lost…… well we found our way out but ended up travelling a bit further than intended!
So this time, we took Liam, a friend of Cam’s from school.
It had rained a little bit the night before (read Bucketloads!!!!) and so there were a few puddles…
And a little bit of mud…..
But it wasn’t too slippery and we had a great time.
We did Tahi and
However we didn’t do the DIP in the Dipper:
Instead we opted for:
Which was bad enough:
And to make sure there wasn’t a repeat of Mum & Cam’s excursion last visit, we took the map:
We all ended up rather dirty:
But had a fun time. And would you believe in the middle of the Dipper Track we bumped into a school friend of mine from Papakura High who I don’t think I had seen since his 21st… ummm about 19 years ago – he turns 40 in November!!!! Unreal!
Apparently..

Posted in Family on October 15, 2008 by mrscownzRob got a phone call from the school sick bay today. Cam was sitting in class when one of the kids said “Cam your eye is all red….” Well not all of it is!
It has been checked out by the Doctor – apparently using a gigantic piece of paper with broken glass & sharp nails on the end along with some orange dye and a blue light – and is ok. Just one of those things that looks ugly and will for a week or two. The white of his eye is getting slightly more blood shot as the evening progresses……
EEG Report
Posted in Family on October 11, 2008 by mrscownzCam’s report came yesterday.
His awake record is within normal limits. During deep sleep, focal epilpicogenic activity is seen. In the appropriate clinical context these would be consistent with Benign Rolandic Epilepsy (BRE). A bit more information, than “his EEG was not normal, but also not abnormal”, which was effectively what his last one concluded!
This confirms what his paediatrcian has been saying – yayyy – but probably means we will just have to wait a few more years before we wean him – hopefully find that out after we see Dr Dave again.
It’s Been a Long Day…………
Posted in Family on October 8, 2008 by mrscownzActually it started last night! Nana bought Cam home yesterday, and stayed the night. She kept Cam up until 11.30 last night, and Rob & I got him up at 5.30 this morning and took him for a walk…. No its not a new kind of cruel torture – he had to be sleep deprived for his E.E.G this morning. And sleep deprived he was!
We went into Hamilton for his appointment at 9. It took about 45 minutes to get all set up
and for the first part of the test to be done – which included looking at a strobe light as it got progressively faster, and hyperventilating for 3 minutes.
He could see himself on the screen as he had a camera on him which provided some entertainment…
Then he got to sleep for 40 minutes!!!!
He apparently went into a deep sleep, which is what they were after and they got some very good data. We should have the report in a week or so, before we go back to the paediatrician.
And then in the afternoon Miss D had her first real haircut. She has had millimetres trimmed off before and a teeni tidy up, but today we lost inches!
Glad it’s not as short as Mum’s which is what she has been saying she wanted!!!!
Trampoline & Concrete 1 – Albie 0
Posted in Family on October 3, 2008 by mrscownzYesterday Albie fell off the tramp. That is what happens when you & your brother rip the netting around it and you may as well no longer have netting! It got iced & strapped last night as we thought it was probably just sprained.
He could bend his wrist and wriggle his fingers and it wasn’t really hurting….. so we left it until this morning to see how it was. This morning it wasn’t a lot different, but we decided to be cautious and Rob took him to the Doc……
JUST AS WELL as the wee man is now in plaster
It obviously doesn’t hurt too much once it is in plaster……….
And being injured apparently brings out your sisters caring side……
Which is slightly better than yesterday, when Miss D and the neighbour Iwa, commented on how it was a shame they hadn’t captured Albie on video as he would have been sure to win the $10,000 on America’s Funniest Home Videos!
He was happy enough because he thought he could take it off at bed time. Not quite as happy when we told him that was only the sling – not the cast!
Poor Albie has not had the best of holidays…. and he was also supposed to start swimming lessons again in a week!! Do they do those cast things water proof?????
