Belatedly…

Here are some more photo’s from Raglan………….

One afternoon we walked along the beach down to the wharf and had a go at fishing… lost a hook and a sinker and lots of bait! Can you see what this guy has? It is a sea horse – he really struggled to swallow it!!!!! On Tuesday, we went down to the jetty at the bottom of town for the kids to have another fish…. but only Cam had a go as nothing was biting & it was a bit windy…. They have put a path in along the water front at the bottom end of town……… On the way home from Raglan to Hamilton we stopped at Bridal Veil Falls….. Here are a selection of shots…..

Not as much water as usual because of the drought, but still very pretty….

This is Cam settling down for the night & no it is not some hideous modern moozic he is listening to – it is the multi talented Stephen Fry – reading him Harry Potter…. The Hamilton Library has all the Harry Potter Books on CD – number 3 is waiting in the wings…. now I get a quiz most nights – “Nearly Headless who?”, “What is Peeves?” “What does Madame Pomefrey do?”……………..

It’s Raining…

Posted in Biking, Family, Kids on February 23, 2008 by mrscownz

Again!!! But not enough to have any impact on the drought!!! Just enough to get us all damp & D decidedly miserable before The REV…. They have a 6km mountain bike ride for kids….
So we loaded up 2 cars – cos we can’t get 5 bikes in one! And headed off…..
Of course when we left home it wasn’t raining & no coats were packed…….. By the time we got to start D was cold & miserable and wanted to go home…… So her & I took our coughs off home and the boys stayed and had fun. Cam took off and did his own thing and Rob stayed with L.

Mark & Melissa rode, Tim, Ben & Louise did tooo – they were all a bit smarter than us though and had rain coats!!!!

And the winner is……………….

Well today was my turn. The SPARC REAL Duathlon was in Hamilton this morning. While I definitely didn’t win… I did get a spot prize :-)

No photos :-) Rob & the kids stayed at home…… Unofficial time 1hr 3 min, hopefully official time will be close and will have beaten last years time!

We have a Tryathlete :-)

Hamilton hosted the first Weetbx Tryathlon of the season today. Waikato has been declared a drought area – so today it rained! Not a lot, not enough to break the drought, just enough to dampen everyone! But I think the weather is actually almost perfect for the event – at least they don’t have to worry about heat stroke…

Cam was excited and nervous. His bag has been packed since Friday (Dad remembered the shoes this morning & Mum had to take his goggles later!).Cam & Dad left home just before 7.30 and I went with L & D at 8.30….
Hamilton is one of the largest events in the country – About 1500 entrants… This is the bike transition area…
The older kids started at 9 & Cam was supposed to start after 10…. There was alot of waiting & nerves……This is Cam & his friend Ben just before they went to queue to start….And about 30 minutes later, they finally got into the pool area…..
Just to wait some more……………..
After having his goggles on for the waiting – Cam got into the pool with them on his forehead….And then tried to put them on in the water, took a mouthful & ended up being pulled the whole way….
Came out of the pool running….
And then lost his bike in the transition area….Even with his flag…..
Once he found it – he was off – just to do exactly what he was told not to do…. Fell off…. But then he was away…..
Looked like he had a good ride…
Then he had the run……
He did great on the run – trying his best! Looks like he almost did his best in his weakest part of the event. Ben had an awesome tryathlon as well – I didn’t see him in the pool, but he came out on his bike before Cam…

And stayed there with a great run to the finish!

They did so well – there were a lot of kids doing it as a team, one doing each part of the event – but these boys did the WHOLE thing – and are keen as to do it again next year YAYYY!!!!!

And once more – because he has done it 22 times now!

Of course Thursday morning, there is an article in the paper about a boy in hospital after jumping off this bridge! It wasn’t the jump that injured him though – it was one of his friends landing on top of him!

More on Sunday………

Cam got back around 2.30 and Rob & 2 ones got back around 4.30…. L christened the spew bags Aunty Jo had given us from Oz… Too much chocolate at the birthday party!!!!

Later on we put life jackets on them all & put them in the inflatable dinghy. There were no oars for it, so Rob towed them using the kayak.

And then they had turns on their own in the kayak…(they are actually still tied to the dinghy – Rob has hold of them just in case!)..
Rob got Cam to tow him for a while, but they went backwards faster than forwards……

Cam actually did pretty good once he was set free!L helped dad put the dinghy away by pushing it all the way in!
Nope he’s not in it – just leaning on it & pushing :-)

Happy Birthday to Me!!!!!!
