Try Training

Posted in Cam, Kids on January 29, 2008 by mrscownz
Cam is registered to do the Weetbix Tryathlon in a couple of weeks. This week at Waterworld, they are running some training sessions: Tuesday – Friday (8.30 – 10.30), with a practice tryathlon on Saturday.
Hopefully he focussed a bit and didn’t just spend his time chatting up the girls!!!
Although the highlight for Cam today was quite possibly the goodie bag!!!
He then spent about 20 minutes on the hydroslide! A busy morning!

Thames – Sunday 27th….

Posted in Family, holidays on January 28, 2008 by mrscownz

Sunday morning was indeed devine, however there was a bit of a sea breeze in the morning so we headed to Thames… We went to the Butterfly & Orchid Garden. It was very tropical/humid inside and D & Dad didn’t last long, but Cam, L & I stayed in for quite awhile. The butterflies were very active and it was hard to get many good photos, but here are a couple:
Then we went to the Goldmine Experience. The kids were a bit wary about going underground, but everyone enjoyed it.
The first pretend man scared Cam:
But the second one was ok. This guy would have earnt about 25 cents a day!

It was very interesting. The guy who was our guide is slowly opening up more of the old tunnels. He hopes to get it set up, so that people can have a go at pushing one of the old carts through a tunnel and dumping it, just the way it used to be done…

The we went inside and saw the old stamper in operation. NOISY! is an understatement. There used to be hundreds of them operating along the coast – the noise must have been horrendous! They also showed us some mercury in a container. Cam found it quite amazing…..

Looking at this photo I can hear him him saying to Rob “TRUE???” – totally unbelieving!

We then headed back to the house – lunch and a last swim. As always, when you should have your camera, you don’t. I was trying to avoid sand in it! It was flat calm & stunning at the beach. The tide was in further than the day before and the water was over Rob’s head at the pontoon…. so he took L out for a turn and then D. Today was my day for palpatations! L thought it was fantastic fun, and kept leaping in when no-one was watching!!! Rob & I were both out there to catch them, but it was a tad stressful. Rob & I sent them all ashore & then had a go ourselves – apparently my DH (Dear Hubby) didn’t think I would do it! Obviously unaware of the many hours spent leaping off the side of a boat in my childhood!

Te Puru….. Saturday 26th…..

Posted in Family, holidays on January 27, 2008 by mrscownz
We have just had a lovely break at Te Puru, about 10 minutes north of Thames. We stayed at a friends holiday home (thank-you Therese & Lew & Therese’s Dad!!!) .

We went up yesterday morning – braving the Kopu on a long weekend…. But all the Aucklanders had obviously left Auckland Friday night & we only had to wait one light change before we got across :-) We had lunch at the house & then headed for a swim…..

But based on D’s entrance into the tide…… I think the kids have spent too much time leaping over the side of the pool
There was quite a breeze & the sea was choppy as you can see. There was a pontoon thingy moored not too far out & Rob helped Cam climb up. The fun things they have been doing at swimming lessons helped here I am sure…

And of course Dad had a go…..L & D had fun warming up in the sand.
And this is probably an inkling into what D would looki like with Dreads!

After everyone had had enough, we headed back to get dry clothes on – as the wind had a bit of a bite to it, and then went exploring rock pools! They had found this starfish – which was a lot bluer than the photo shows.
We found pools full of anemonies,
But what the boys…..
really wanted to find was CRABS! We managed to find lots of little ones under the rocks, and Cam was on the hunt for some bigs ones………
However, this little stash just about gave him heart palpataions.
Seemed like hundreds of crabs under one rock. Which was very carefully put back so as not to squish any.

Funny though, cos the only one who would hold them, was D…..

Until a slightly larger one decided to have a taste ;-)

The day ended with a stunning sunset, and promises of more spectacular summer weather……..

We had visitors!!!!

Posted in Australians, Family, Kids, fun, holidays on January 23, 2008 by mrscownz
Jo, J & T have been to visit. They spent a few days with Ma & Pa, a few days with us (Sat to Wednesday) & the the last few back up with Ma & Pa.

The kids played together wonderfully & had a great time together – especially in the pool!
Although T found the water got cold quite quickly!

Cam’s elbow got sloughy? (sp?) from being in the water so much and because Aunty Jo is a Pro…. Professional nurse that is – she was allowed to deal to it – when Mum isn’t even allowed to pull out prickles with a pair of tweezers!

I guess T was allowed to help because he is the son of said nurse. Cam had Grandpa F holding his hands & Grandma F rubbing his back – it was like major surgery. BUT Jo introduced us to the wonder cream…..
And it is now just a bright pink patch on his tanned brown elbow…..

We had a lovely day on the Sunday, with all of J & T’s grandparents…. and helped Grandma F celebrate her birthday – with Chocolate cake….. yummmmmm
We managed to get some photo’s of all the 4 grandparents with the Jo’s kids….
Although it was a problem getting some people to stop talking….

And my lovely sister gave me an early birthday present… A Pandora bracelet & my first charm…..
not that I am that keen for the birthday to arrive!
We also had a little shop & I bought myself the money bag & small spacer……

It was a wonderful few days, that went way too fast for everybody – except probably Johnny, at home by himself, painting & sanding & working!!!!

YEEEOUCH!!

THAT’S GOTTA HURT!

Cam fell off his bike today & has these wounds as souvenirs. The photos don’t actually do them justice! He was extremely brave and didn’t cry (i would have!!), probably because the witnesses to it all were GIRLS from the street ;-)

He has gone to bed tonight with them uncovered as he “wants to let the air get to them” – I just hope he doesn’t stick to his sheet – yeeouch again!

The Reality

Posted in Kids, swimming on January 6, 2008 by mrscownz

of not being allowed in the pool for a week hit today when the neighbours came over for a swim & Cam wasn’t allowed in with them…..
Not a happy camper……..Full credit to him though, after his first vent(s) of frustration, he gave up trying to get in – just sulked & scowled abit.

Frog Hunt #2….

Posted in Family on January 6, 2008 by mrscownz

Is this one easier? Frog is in about the same place as the first photo… but in the first photo you need to look for the eyes…….. here look for it’s back… And this is frog number 2 as well – I think I must have jinxed frog #1 as it disappeared the day after the post – Lecter & Kruger strike again!

Until these guysAre 5!
Not that they are counting :-)

YOU WHAT!!!!

Posted in Family on January 2, 2008 by mrscownz

Guess what this is…….
Yep – its a patch on the pool…. How did it get a hole I hear you ask? Up there, on the top? Not on the bottom, where kids drop things into the pool, but on the side… where they lean…. and in Cam’s case – rest & bite – YES that’s right BITE! For some reason only known to Cam, he decided to bite the pool – did what he has managed to do to innumerable items that he insists on putting in his mouth – he put a hole in it!!!! As you can imagine, he is extremely popular – NOT!!! and banned from the pool for a week !!!
